AmFunds Management Berhad (“AFM”)

AFM was incorporated in Malaysia on 9 July 1986 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of AmInvestment Bank Berhad. AFM has over decades of experience in the unit trust industry. AmInvest is the brand name for AFM.

Pursuant to AMMB Holdings Berhad’s (the holding company of AmInvestment Management Berhad (“AIM”) and AFM) initiative to streamline the business operations of its asset management business under AIM and the unit trust business under AFM, the businesses of both AIM and AFM are consolidated to operate under a single operating structure, i.e., under AFM

With effect from 1 December 2014, AFM is the holder of a Capital Markets and Services Licence for the regulated activities of fund management, dealing in securities restricted to unit trusts and dealing in private retirement scheme issued under the Act.

AFM is also a Private Retirement Schemes (“PRS”) Provider offering a total of ten (10) AmPRS funds and two Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). AFM offers the most diverse range of both the conventional and Shariah-compliant retirement funds across asset classes and geographical exposures in the market.

As at Financial Year End 2019 (31 March 2019), the total value of assets under management is RM32.2 billion, including separately managed mandates and collective investment schemes (68 unit trust funds, 10 private retirement schemes and 2 exchange traded funds).

c) Cross Trade

The Manager may conduct cross trades between funds and private mandates it currently manages provided that all criteria imposed by the regulators are met.

Notwithstanding, cross trades between the personal account of an employee of the Manager and the fund's account are strictly prohibited. The execution of cross trade (if any) will be reported to the Investment Committee and disclosed in the fund's report accordingly.

J Visvanathan Jaganatha Thevar
Compliance Officer

J Visvanathan Jaganatha is the designated Compliance Officer overseeing compliance matters in AmInvest. He has more than 34 years of working experience in the banking industry, over which 13 years’ experience is Capital Market related within the AmBank Group. He is also currently the Head of Compliance at AmInvestment Bank Berhad. He holds a Masters of Business Administration from Victoria University of Technology, Australia. He has completed the relevant examinations for Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) modules and is registered as Head of Compliance with both SC and Bursa Malaysia. He is also a Certified Professional in Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism.

Heow Yen Fen
Senior Vice President of Product Development & Management

Heow Yen Fen is the Senior Vice President of Product Development and Management where she is responsible for the development of new products as well as maintenance and enhancement of existing products of AmInvest. She has more than 13 years of experience in the fund management industry and was attached to some of the largest fund houses in Malaysia. She holds a Bachelor of Business and Commerce (Hons) degree in Management and Marketing from Monash University, Australia.

Gan Thian Hou
Vice President of Middle Office

With over 18 years experience in the financial services sector, Gan Thian Hou joined AmInvest on 3rd May 2017 as Vice President, Business Control and subsequently in October as Head, Middle Office. Some of his core responsibilities encompass the setting up and implementation of risk, business and operational processes of the company. Having previously worked in a Malaysian Private Bank, Gan brings with him invaluable experience in Compliance, Operational Risk & Business Governance. He is a honours graduate in Business and Management from the University of Bradford, UK.

Yasotha Kandasamy
Senior Vice President of Institutional Sales

Yasotha Kandasamy is the Senior Vice President, Institutional Sales who oversees the Sales and Client Servicing team for Funds Management Division (FMD)’s institutional clients. These clients include pension providers, sovereign funds, financial institutions, public listed companies, government link companies as well corporates and Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs). She has 20 years of financial industry experience selling banking products, credit control in brokering and funds management. Yasotha joined FMD in 2001 and had responsibility over the client services and sales team for Institutional and Corporate channel of AmFunds Management Berhad with similar responsibilities at AmIslamic Funds Management Sdn Bhd in 2011. Her last position was Vice President, Institutional Funds Services. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from University Sains Malaysia, majoring in Economics. Presently, she holds a Capital Market Services Representative’s License (CMSRL) by Securities Commission Malaysia. In addition, she holds a Certification in Anti Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism by Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers and International Compliance Association (ICA) and an Advanced Certificate in Anti Money Laundering from ICA. She is also a registered individual with Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia to market and distribute unit trust as well as Private Retirement Schemes.

Valerie Low Lai Kin
Head of Retail & Retirement Funds

Valerie Low Lai Kin is the Head of Retail and Retirement Funds for Funds Management Division (FMD), overseeing the business development and growth of Unit Trusts, Private Retirement Schemes (PRS) via various retail channels such as Institutional Unit Trust Advisers (IUTAs), Corporate Unit Trust Advisers, Institutional PRS Advisers and digital financial planning platforms. Her broad financial industry expertise, spanned more than two decades, covering brokering, insurance and investment-linked marketing and research, retail banking relationship management and wealth management in various financial institutions. She also acquired strong funds management knowledge as she was the business development head of an international funds management company based in Malaysia who was responsible for fund size growth and new business. She joined FMD in 2016 and her last role was Head of IUTAs, leading a team looking after the growth of retail and retirement funds from IUTAs. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Bath, UK and a bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from Massey University majoring in Finance from New Zealand. She is a Certified Financial Planner and is also a registered individual with Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia to market and distribute unit trust as well as Private Retirement Schemes.

Jeyaratnam A/L Tamotharam Pillai (Chairman, Independent)

Jeyaratnam a/l Tamotharam Pillai (Chairman, Independent), a Malaysian, aged 64, was appointed to the Board of AmFunds Management Berhad on 1 April 2019 as Independent Non-Executive Chairman. He is currently the Chairman of AmInvestment Bank Berhad. With over 30 years’ experience in the financial and investment banking services industry, Jeyaratnam is a seasoned banker having involved in various assignments which included the listing of companies, mergers and acquisitions, takeovers, corporate restructuring and fund raising exercises. Jeyaratnam undertook Malaysia’s first privatisation exercise and participated in various feasibility studies and cross border transactions in India, Ghana and the United Kingdom. The area of expertise and experience of Jeyaratnam also include deals origination, define corporate and funding structures, evaluate and negotiate deals, execution and implementation of deals. He has been working closely with various stakeholders such as corporate clients, investors, banks, government agencies, Bursa Malaysia Berhad (Bursa), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). During his career, Jeyaratnam had served as Chief Executive/Deputy Chief Executive of four investment banks over a 12-year period. He was also a member of the Sub-Committee of Bursa and the Capital Market Advisory Council of SC. Jeyaratnam was appointed by the Minister of Finance to be part of the six-member team that was responsible in formulating the Malaysian Capital Market Masterplan. He was overseeing the Investment Banking, Stockbroking, Fund Management and Venture Capital Activities during his tenure in Maybank as the Head of Investment Banking Division. Jeyaratnam’s past Directorships included Westcomb Financial Group Limited Singapore, Kuwait Finance House (Australia) Ptd Ltd, KFH Asset Management Sdn Bhd, Kuwait Finance House (Labuan) Berhad and Avenue Capital Resource Berhad. Jeyaratnam is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and member of the Malaysia Institute of Accountants. He held a Capital Markets Services Representative License (CMSRL Adviser License) and was a Qualified Senior Personnel (QSP) approved by SC.

Tai Terk Lin (Independent)

Tai Terk Lin (independent) was appointed to the Board of Directors of AmFunds Management Berhad as an independent and non-executive director on 15 December 2014. He has experience of more than thirty (30) years in fund management and banking industry, while leading a lot of management initiative projects in unit trust, commercial and private banking as well as wealth management. He was previously the Group Chief Executive Officer of ICB Financial Group Holdings AG, the holding company of ICB Banking Group, and a Commissioner of PT Bank ICB Bumiputera. Before that, he was the executive director of Platinum Capital Management (Asia) and a Senior Vice President of DBS Bank in Singapore. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Cranfield University, United Kingdom. He has a Bachelor of Science with Education (B.Sc.Ed (Hons)) from the University of Malaya and holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and the IBF Advance (IBFA) from the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore.

Mustafa Bin Mohd Nor (Independent)

Mustafa Bin Mohd Nor (independent) was appointed to the Board of Directors of AmFunds Management Berhad as an independent and non-executive director on 3 March 2014. He is also a director of KUISAS Berhad and a member of state investment committee, Perak Darul Ridzuan. In total, he has approximately fourty (40) years of vast and diversified experience in economics, investment advisory, stockbroking, unit trust, asset and fund management. He obtained a Masters of Arts (Economic Policy) from Boston University and Bachelor of Economics (Analytical) from University of Malaya.

Sum Leng Kuang (Independent)

Sum Leng Kuang (independent) was appointed to the Board of Directors of AmFunds Management Berhad as an independent and non-executive director on 18 January 2016. She possesses an extensive investment management experience of more than three (3) decades, particularly in managing fixed income investment portfolios, credit evaluation and credit risk management. She has dedicated a total of thirty one (31) years of service to Great Eastern Group until year 2013. As Head of Fixed Income Investment in Great Eastern Life Assurance (M) Berhad, she was responsible for the management of approximately RM40.0 billion in fixed income funds. She has also been actively involved in the development of local fixed income market via active participation in industry dialogues and direct consultations with issuers, investors, rating agencies, regulatory bodies and federal agencies. She is currently a Director of Pacific & Orient Insurance Co. Berhad and has also been appointed as the Investment Advisor of Credit Guarantee Corporation Malaysia Berhad. She graduated from University of Canterbury, New Zealand with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Finance. She is also a Certified Financial Planner.

Seohan Soo (Non-Independent)

Seohan Soo (Non-Independent) was appointed to the Board of Directors of AmFunds Management Berhad as a non-independent and non-executive director on 1 August 2018. He is the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of AmInvestment Bank Berhad (the “Bank”) and leads a team comprising strategic lines of business in the AmBank Group with responsibilities for the overall objectives and business strategies and performance targets for the Bank. Seohan joined AmBank Group as the Director / Head, Debt Capital Markets in 2003 and prior to his assuming the role of CEO of the Bank was Executive Vice President, Capital Markets Group (“CMG”). Seohan has more than twenty-three (23) years of investment banking experience at both foreign and local investment banks and has been instrumental in building the Bank’s leadership in fixed income covering debt origination, structuring and distribution. Under his stewardship, CMG has been at the forefront of innovation in the bond/sukuk market and the Bank has been consistently ranked top 3 in the fixed income business. Seohan obtained his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Warwick and Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge and is also a qualified Barrister-at-Laws of Lincoln’s Inn, London and an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

Goh Wee Peng (Non-Independent)

Goh Wee Peng (Non-Independent) is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AmInvest, the brand for the funds management business of AmFunds Management Berhad and AmIslamic Funds Management Sdn Bhd. Both companies are wholly-owned subsidiaries of AmInvestment Bank Berhad. Ms. Goh has more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry, over 16 years’ experience are in funds management. Prior to her appointment as CEO in August 2018, she held various senior management roles within AmInvest comprising Acting CEO, Deputy CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Fixed Income. Her financial expertise and experience span money broking, bond trading and funds management. She started her career as a money market broker, then fixed income dealer before joining AmInvest as a credit analyst in 2002. Ms. Goh graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance) from RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. She holds a Capital Markets Services Representative’s License, Persatuan Forex License, Dealer’s Representative License and is a member of the Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia (FIMM) and Malaysian Association of Asset Managers (MAAM).

The Investment Committee meets at least five (5) times a year to review the Fund’s investment objectives and guidelines, and to ensure that the Fund is invested appropriately.

Sum Leng Kuang (independent) was appointed to the Board of Directors of AmFunds Management Berhad as an independent and non-executive director on 18 January 2016. Zainal Abidin Mohd. Kassim

Zainal Abidin Mohd. Kassim (independent) is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in the UK since 1986, a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of Malaysia, a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries of Singapore and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, USA. He has been a Consulting Actuary and Senior Partner with over 30 years of consulting experience with extensive experience in conventional insurance and Takaful for both life and casualty insurance. He also has experience in various assignments on investment consulting for pension and provident funds as well as pension liabilities and pension benefit. Encik Zainal Abidin Mohd. Kassim holds a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) in Actuarial Science degree from City University London.

Wong Yew Joe
Chief Investment Officer
Designated fund manager for all unit trust funds, wholesale feeder funds and private retirement schemes

Wong Yew Joe is the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of AmFunds Management Berhad overseeing investments in the firm. He has more than 20 years of experience in financial services and funds management. Over this tenure, his roles covered investment analysis, trading and portfolio management. He also played a key role in product development, business development and managing client relationships. Yew Joe first joined the Funds Management Division in 2006 as a fund manager. His last post was the Head of Fixed Income reporting to the Chief Investment Officer and oversaw investments in Islamic fixed income instruments and other related instruments. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. He also holds a Capital Markets Services Representative’s License for the regulated activity of fund management.

Raymond Lew Wei Chien
Designated fund manager for all conventional wholesale fixed income and wholesale money market funds

Raymond Lew Wei Chien is the Head of Fixed Income at AmFunds Management Berhad with more than 20 years of relevant experience. Raymond is responsible for managing institutional clients’ fixed income mandates and unit trust funds. He has performed similar roles as a fixed income fund manager with various asset management and insurance companies prior to joining AmInvest 10 years ago. Raymond holds a Bachelor degree of Business in Accounting from Monash University, Australia and has a Capital Markets Services Representative’s License (CMSRL) for the regulated activity of fund management.

Kho Hock Khoon
Designated fund manager for AmIncome Advantage and all close-ended fixed income and sukuk funds

Kho Hock Khoon is the Senior Vice President of Fixed Income with more than 8 years of relevant experience in fund management field. He was a credit officer for 3 years with a foreign bank incorporated in Malaysia. He started as a credit analyst with the Manager and later assumes a greater responsibility as the fund manager cum credit analyst for the Manager. He has over RM4 billion of assets under his management. Kho holds a PhD degree and Master degree in Finance from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia. He also holds a Bachelor degree of Business in Economics and Finance from the same academic institution. Kho is the holder of Capital Markets Services Representative’s License (CMSRL) for the regulated activity of fund management.

Gan Kong Yik
Designated fund manager for Global Dividend

Gan Kong Yik is a Senior Fund Manager with the Equities team of Funds Management Division of AMMB Holdings Berhad (“AmInvest”) with over 17 years relevant experience in this field. His key responsibilities will include managing pension funds and various mutual funds. In AmInvest, he performs financial analysis, earnings forecast and valuation of regional listed banking sector. Prior to AmInvest, Kong Yik was the Chief Investment Officer with KAF Investment Funds Berhad (“KIF”) since January 2016, where he led the investment team with 3 fund managers that covered the Malaysian equity market. Prior to that, he was a fund manager with Pheim Asset Management Sdn Bhd since July 2012, managing 12 portfolios ranging from pension funds, unit trusts to private mandates.
